Las Vegas, Nevada is known around the world for its mega-resorts, casinos, nightlife and entertainment, but there is more to this booming desert metropolis. Las Vegas is home to some of the nation’s best restaurants, amusements and several colleges and universities. It is also a popular host site for numerous conventions and national meetings thanks in part to the extraordinary number of hotel rooms and the ready availability of meeting space.
The Las Vegas Strip is the most famous of this city’s many diverse neighborhoods, but the metropolitan area also hosts, among other neighborhoods and communities, a booming Chinatown and numerous affluent suburbs, including the exclusive Lake Las Vegas community.
The Las Vegas Strip
The Strip is dominated by the massive hotels and casinos, which line the city’s main thoroughfare, Las Vegas Boulevard. These institutions, many of which are among the world’s largest hotels, often boast entertainment options ranging from massive gambling halls and shopping malls to Broadway shows and concerts. If you’re just in for a vacation, be sure to check in with your hotel’s concierge to see what you might be able to experience while you’re in town.
Las Vegas’ Chinatown is a relatively new development, appearing largely in the late 1990s, and is located to the west of the Strip. Las Vegas has a booming Asian community that makes up 7 percent of the area’s population. This area is home to many great Chinese restaurants of various styles, Asian grocers and other attractions typical of an American Chinatown and is located just a quick bus ride away from downtown.
Lake Las Vegas
Located to the east of the city center in nearby Henderson, Nevada, Lake Las Vegas is an affluent suburb and resort community as well as home to a small lake, several resort hotels and golf courses. Lake Las Vegas offers area visitors an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city while just being a quick car ride away. It’s a great neighborhood to consider for a getaway or even as a comfortable place to live.
With great cultural and entertainment attractions and ample warmth and sunshine almost every day of the year, Las Vegas is a great destination for a quick weekend trip, for a longer vacation or for a permanent move.
