Landscaping Ideas to Add Curb Appeal

Does your home have ample curb appeal? Your yard and front porch make a first impression to visitors and potential buyers, and you want that impression to be memorable and positive. Make sure that your home is well-kept and immediately inviting with these tips:

Take a step back

Go across the street, or to a nearby street corner. How does your home look from this angle? Seeing your home from this perspective will give you a clear picture of what needs to be done.  Start with landscaping. Pruning trees and bushes and repainting shutters or a front door are easy ways to give your home a clean, neat look. Cleaning gutters, washing windows, and power-washing or repairing walkways will help improve curb appeal.

Get the edge up

One of the easiest ways to make your lawn look pristine is to invest in an edger. You’ll enjoy clean lines against sidewalks, driveways and walkways. You can also use an edging product or stones to give your flowerbeds definition. Both of these landscaping techniques will enhance an immaculate lawn.

Frame and soften with plants

Get instant curb appeal by adding flowerbeds and shrubbery. If your home is for sale, opt for low-maintenance but colorful plants. Keep your beds simple and neat by adding multiples of the same plant to preserve a clean look.  Place beds strategically to frame the view of your home from the street or to soften corners.  Plants should complement your lawn and home, not overpower them.

Consider lighting things up

Low-voltage landscape lighting is easy to install and will create drama and warmth in the evening hours or on rainy, dark days.  All you need is access to power, a lighting kit, and a shovel.

Landscaping is a great way to update your home. Get creative with your additions and see how they improve your home’s curb appeal.
